Rachael Ray Dog Food Reviews: Honest Truths & Hidden Wins!

It was about 10 years ago when Rachael Ray products first came out. At the time, we didn’t see any omega-3 listed in the ingredients, and I realized it too late. I had three cats who suffered heart attacks and passed away within a few months. I was heartbroken and couldn’t understand why.

Then I thought about it — they weren’t that close in age, and the only major change I had made was switching dog food safely from Purina to Rachael Ray Nutrish. It turns out that omega-3 is crucial for heart health, and if pet food is the only source of vitamins they’re getting, it’s important to either choose a formula with omega-3 or add a multivitamin to their diet.

Thankfully, the company gave me a full refund, and I reported the problem. My vet confirmed my cats had no prior health issues, and all of them were indoor cats. We had raised many cats over the years on other highly rated dog food brands, like Cat Chow, with no problems.

I have fed Rachael Ray dog wet and dry food as part of my dog’s food rotation plan for a few years without any problems. I have an Am and a standard-coated Xoloitzcuintli. My Pitbull/Am, Dalmatian/Crew/Chow/Golden mix breeds are not dog food for picky eaters and usually do well on almost any diet. I recently bought a new bag with a different smell of Grain-Free Chicken and Sweet Potato Kettle, along with several cans of Veggies & Beef, Pumpkin & Beef, and Chicken & Pumpkin.

Three days later, my pit mix started vomiting repeatedly. We tried feeding him again, and the vomiting got even worse. After switching dog food safely to rice and boiled chicken, he made a full recovery. When we reintroduced just 1/2 cup of the high-protein dog kibble to his rice, he started vomiting food again. We are now back on rice and chicken, and will be removing Rachael Ray from our rotation plan.

If I could give this food a negative 5, I would. We have been feeding our 6-pound Chihuahua a soft diet for a while now, and suddenly, the consistency changed. My baby started having dangerous symptoms — severe shaking with stomach pain, dog food causing diarrhea, and dog vomiting after food. I wrote to Nutrish, but all I got was a generic letter asking me the same questions I had already answered. This company’s food is garbage. They couldn’t care less about our pets. People: research this brand before exposing your pets to these ingredients. We had to learn the hard way.

I don’t know if the new bag has a different formula or if it was spoiled, but we’ve had it on auto-delivery for 3 years, and suddenly ,both of my dogs got really sick. They avoided eating at first, then my chihuahua developed diarrhea and vomiting. Four days later, my dachshund showed the exact same symptoms!

I am convinced there is something wrong with this bag. My chihuahua is recovering with pumpkin puree, meds, and probiotics, but my dachshund is still sick, and we’re taking him back to the vet-recommended dog food. This is my first post. I have the best dog ever and have researched all the “good” dry dog foods. I have been mixing half Fromm kibble with half Fresh Pet, but my dog is starting to turn her nose up at it. Now I’m going to try Fresh Pet with Goodlands kibble, which is only available at Walmart. I can’t find any reviews on this food — hopefully Dog Food Advisor will review it soon!

I have been using Evanger’s Beef with Bacon cans as a topper for my dogs for years. The ingredients used to be just beef, water, and bacon. Now they have added guar gum. I don’t think it’s a bad ingredient, but it’s a shame they changed it.

I also tried the “Get Joy” raw frozen food — my dog loves it! I give him a cup or two of this and then his Acana. He’s happy and healthy. The only downside is that freeze-dried is very expensive, so he only gets it as a treat.
